East Suffolk Section AJS and Matchless Owners Club

AJS & MATCHLESS OWNERS CLUB

EAST SUFFOLK SECTION HISTORY.

The East Suffolk Section of the AJS & Matchless owners club was formed in 1997 by six local owners of AMC machines under the guidance of Albert Usher.

Albert had moved to Grundisburgh from his native Yorkshire. Having been very active within the Yorkshire section and there not being a section in this area he made contact with other local owners by obtaining names at the 1997 Ipswich to Felixstowe run.

The first meeting was held at the Red Lion public house at Woodbridge September 1997, present at the meeting where Albert, Robert Self, Jim Lomax, Mick Dykes, Robin Cowling and Andy Poulson. Albert became section chairman and Robert took the position of treasurer and secretary.

The Suffolk Section has grown to current membership of 40.

With the need for more space due to the increase in membership numbers the section moved its meeting place to the Horse and Groom public house at Melton just outside Woodbridge, where we have a comfortable meeting-room and a helpful landlord.

Recent runs, to mention a few, have been to the arir museum at Flixton, vintage vehicle rallies at Rickinghall and Henham, to Snetterton to support one of our members who was racing there, and the annual inter-section meet in Essex.
